A Lean Kaizen Workshop is focused on process-improvements that are typically implemented immediately upon completion of the workshop.

We view these workshops as an extended, multi-phase project rather than as a three- or five-day event. There are three phases in the workshop:

Phase 1: Preparing for the Kaizen

The preparation phase is the most important phase of the workshop. During this four to eight-week phase, team members who use the process or are affected by the process, gather data and information, (e.g., process documentation and metrics) required to run a successful Kaizen.

Phase 2: Conducting the Kaizen

Workshops span 3 to 5 days. The duration is determined by:

  • Complexity of the target process
  • Organization goals
  • Size of the team
  • Process boundaries (what’s in, what’s out)

Kaizen teams are encouraged to develop low- or no-cost solutions that can be implemented during the workshop or in the following week.

Phase 3: Sustaining the Gains

This phase drives success and is where the real pay-off is realized. The creative excitement and feeling of accomplishment people experience in the workshop builds valuable momentum.

To build on this momentum, monthly report-outs and leadership coaching are provided for six months after the workshop. The report-outs give the team a venue to report their progress in implementing and sustaining the improvements to their managers.

Additional coaching is provided to managers to ensure they get the most out of their investment in Lean Kaizen and their people.
